Abstract
This article presents a balance of the Colombian-Venezuelan trade in the period 1990 -2006. It highlights that integration increased the flows of manufacture, investments and jobs for both countries, that is, thatthe economic agenda dominated the agitated political relationships. The achievements of the economic integration are in danger due to Venezuela resignation to the Andean Commonwealth [Spanish AcronymCAN] in April 2006. In spite of the symptoms of privatedis intermediation, the trade continues growing as consequence of the favourable economic situation in both countries. The resignation of Venezuela will only bring problems in the short term to the Colombian-Venezuelan trade as the neighbour country doesn’t respect the article 135 of the Cartagena Agreement; in the long term the exchange could be more promissory if both countries re-establish or create new commercial agreements in the Andean or bilateral framework.
