Abstract
This paper aims to identify possibilities for tourism development as an option for the city of Girardot, Cundinamarca. To this end, the analysis builds on a participatory action research (PAR) approach, which takes as a starting point the potential offered by the river as a structuring axe in the social and economic relations of the city and the region. The study takes into account historical events that took place in the city, as well as its evolution as a result of the continuous displacement of citizens from Bogotá on the weekends and, to a lesser extent, during the week, in order to find diversion and recreation. Its strategic location within the region and its climatic conditions are taken as reference features that make it very attractive for tourists.
