Abstract

This article analyzes the joint socioeconomic determinants of labor informality and underemployment in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga (AMB). For this purpose, a descriptive analysis was carried out and a biprobit model was estimated based on the microdata of the Great Integrated Household Survey of 2015. Results show that 16.52% of the AMB workers suffer from both phenomena. Among the variables that decrease the probability of belonging to this group are schooling, being a male, and age. On the other hand, variables such as time between jobs and working in the secondary or tertiary sector increase the joint probability of being an informal worker and underemployed.
